EP 307 - Kim Carson Talks about Her Husband Jeff Carson’s Last Album 448

Jeff Carson’s last album, 448 is a 9-track, never-to-be-completed swan song by a man who lived a praiseworthy life. 

 

Lauded by both the Academy of Country Music and the Police Academy, in 2009, after charting 14 singles, including mid-‘90s Billboard-topping “Not On Your Love” and Top-5 father-son anthem “The Car,” Jeff Carson walked away from the music industry completely, and for all the right reasons–to pursue a career in law enforcement, focus on family, and be a strong role model and dad to his son Dayton. 

 

He would serve the Franklin, Tenn. Police Department for 14 years with accommodation.

 

After a 22-year absence from the music scene, but with the recent resurgence of ‘90s country music in the mainstream, Jeff Carson was encouraged to return to the studio to re-record an album of his greatest hits. Tragically, before the album was completed, on March 26, 2022, after returning from a day shift at the police department, Carson suffered a sudden heart attack and passed away.

EP 305 - Set The Expectation with Brenda Tracy

Brenda Tracy. She is a nurse, speaker, activist, and survivor. In 1998, she reported to police that she was brutally raped by four men, two of whom played football at Oregon State University. 

 

In 2014, she found the courage to come forward with her story and now seeks to make the world a better place for survivors. 

 

As a citizen lobbyist, Brenda has helped with the passage of eight laws in her home state of Oregon. 

 

She has won numerous awards and was named ESPN’s top 25 women in 2016, one of Sports Illustrated most powerful women in sports in 2020, and in 2022, ESPN’s 11 Biggest Power Brokers and Advocates Shaping College Football. 

 

Brenda Tracy is the creator of the “Tracy Rule” which is the most comprehensive serious misconduct policy in NCAA history, and she is the founder of the national campaign and nonprofit, Set The Expectation. 

 

Her message of “men as the solution and not the problem” is transforming the landscape of sports and how we engage in gender-based violence prevention work.

Cristy Kisner is the author of the gluten-free, dairy-free and processed food-free cookbook, Cristy’s Kitchen.

EP 301 - Legendary Actress Ann-Margret

She is one of the most famous actresses that has ever graced the silver screen. She continues her career into the 21st century with no signs of slowing down. 

 

In 1961, her single "I Just Don't Understand" charted in the Top 20 of the Billboard Hot 100 Charts and her acting debut followed the same year as Bette Davis' daughter in Frank Capra's Pocketful of Miracles. She appeared in the musical, State Fair a year later with Pat Boone before her breakthrough in 1963, with Bye Bye Birdie and Viva Las Vegas opposite Elvis Presley, she then became a Top 10 Box Office movie star.

EP 300 - Pat Boone: The Legend, In His Own Words

EP 299 - Set the Expectation with Washington Commanders James Smith-Williams

With us today is James Smith-Williams of the Washington Commanders. He is the Set The Expectation ambassador and founded The Set The Expectation Champions program. 

 

James began his advocacy work with Set The Expectation in 2019 when he was a player at North Carolina State. A devoted supporter of sexual assault survivors, James has organized multiple events and taken every opportunity possible to use his platform to raise awareness and give to survivors and their families a voice.

EP 295 - Ride Away the Stigma: Ride for Mental Health with Mac Dorris

Mac Dorris, who founded The Ride for Mental Health inspired by his son, Eric. Eric struggled with mental health issues as a young man. He was eventually diagnosed with borderline personality disorder among other conditions, and tragically died of an accidental overdose at the age of 21. 

 

Mac, an avid cyclist, created The Ride to honor his son’s life, and to shine a light of hope and caring for others. Eric’s memory lives on in the important work being funded by The Ride for Mental Health, and in the moments of connection and camaraderie that make the event so rewarding.

EP 294 - Actor / Director / Photographer Juan Escobedo Discusses His Storytelling Through Film and Photography

Juan Escobedo is a multi-talented award-winning actor, director.

 

He is also a very talented photographer with his photography being widely praised. The Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs started publishing Mr. Escobedo’s photography in 2012 as part of the City of Los Angeles Heritage Month Celebrations. 

 

One of his most notable works of photography, Trash and Tears, was a series of photographs depicting models posing, surrounded by trash in an attempt to explore the issues of hoarding, mental health, poverty, and drug addiction.  

 

Recently, the Los Angeles County Department of Arts & Culture launched the Collective Memory Installation as part of its Illuminate LA initiative. 

 

Mr. Escobedo, was selected to exhibit his work titled, El Sombrero de Miguel Lopez, which pays homage to his late grandfather and one of our topics today.

His recent short film NIGHT RIDE was awarded the Audience Award at The Norwegian Short Film Festival and has since won 5 awards at festivals around the world. 

 

It has also been nominated for an Academy Award in the Live Action Short Film category for this year’s Oscars.

Born and raised in Australia on a diet of James Bond films, elaborate thrillers and Errol Morris documentaries. His interest in film grew in high school where he made a run of several short films including SURVEILLANCE - his take on Alfred Hitchcock’s REAR WINDOW - and the mockumentary, FAKES.

Steve has ministered to thousands of sick people and their families in the largest medical center in the world - the Texas Medical Center in Houston, Texas - and did hospital chaplaincy training at MD Anderson Cancer Center, the world's top cancer medical facility. 

 

He is the President and Executive Director of Living Hope Chaplaincy, a nonprofit organization that trains and mobilizes volunteers to provide spiritual care to hospital patients, their families, and healthcare workers.
